Last Updated: 09.12.21

Main technical features

The Orion 9534 ED80T CF is a versatile triplet apochromatic refractor telescope with ED (extra-low dispersion) glass to ensure remarkable aberration-free resolution. The 80mm refractor with fast f/6 focal ratio is usable for astrophotography and visual applications. The carbon fiber Optical Tube Assembly (OTA) is lightweight yet strong to give you an incredible device for years of use. Its reduced weight and size combined with its wide-field apochromatic optics makes this telescope suitable for sky photography.

The telescope comes with a highly capable dual-speed 2-inch Crayford focuser, a dovetail finder scope base, 2-inch to 1.25-inch step down adapter, Starry Night astronomy software and a foam-lined robust carry case. Those topnotch accessories are sure to be appreciated by the avid astronomy enthusiast. They make this telescope a worthy investment if you are serious about becoming better in your hobby or profession as a skywatcher.

This telescope boasts a mere 5.5-pound weight that won’t break your back like it won’t break the bank. It offers a variety of mounting options with its integrated dovetail mounting base that directly attaches to any equatorial mount from Orion that features a narrow, Vixen-style dovetail saddle while eliminating the need for extra mounting accessories. You can get a stable, mechanized equatorial mount for astrophotography applications. This telescope works nicely with a host of lightweight and stable photo and field tripods because of the threaded ¼ 20 adapter on the built-in dovetail mounting base.

In-depth information

This telescope is geared with an 80mm aperture triplet objective that comes with FPL-53 extra-low dispersion glass, which ensures that captured images and views are rendered in natural color as well as with incredibly sharp resolution. It offers crisp views and reduced chromatic aberration or false colors, unlike standard achromatic refractor telescopes. This is due to the use of extra-low dispersion (ED) optical glass on this model, as well as the utilization of three optical elements. Preferred by real-time imaging experts and observers, the apochromatic refractor configuration offers fast unobstructed optics for rich detail in solar system views as well as deep-sky phenomena observation. The carbon fiber refractor tube is attractive on its own.

The Crayford-style focuser has undergone precision machining to deliver dual-speed focal adjustment for tuning in to the delicate details of both heavenly and terrestrial objects. To adjust at an 11:1 rate, use the smaller fine focus knob. On the other hand, the coarse focus knob enables you to hone in on the perfect focal point to enjoy crisp astrophotos and observation with sharp performance. You also get hassle-free use of increased magnification 1.25-inch eyepieces as well as 1.25-inch imaging cameras thanks to the supplied 2- to 1.25-inch eyepiece adapter. Everything fits nicely into the included hard case with custom foam lining.

Perfectly portable for adventures into dark-sky locations, this telescope is lightweight and easily transported in its own case. It fits easily onto your choice of mount or tripod system, with the integrated dovetail mounting base with ¼ 20 adapter. Use it with a DSLR or CCD camera or an imaging-capable equatorial mount. This model becomes even more easy to store and carry with its retractable dew shield, which gives it a length of only 14.3 inches when fully retracted. When fully extended, the dew shield gives the telescope a total length of 18.25 inches. The dew shield serves to reduce dew accumulation and peripheral glare.

Known issues

This grab-an-go APO telescope is best used when the skies are clear. It is not designed for use in cloudy skies, and boasts great quality you can depend on when viewing the celestial objects during great weather conditions. It offers a means for amateur astronomers to familiarize themselves with the elements of the night sky as well as for viewing wildlife and scenery.
